Felt Frosty Friends

25 Nov

We got our first real snow last night here in the Arctic.  Which means from now to March it will be wicked cold and we will be spending a lot of time indoors!  We did brave the cold to play in the new snow for about an hour, but once we lost all feeling in our toes and fingers, it was time to come in for some hot cocoa and crafts!

Call me an over achiever, but we did 2 crafts today.  Each took maybe 10 minutes, with minimal prep time for Mommy.

Felty Frosty

What you need

  • felt of various colors
  • google eyes
  • pipe cleaners
  • craft pompoms
  • glue
  • scissors

I cut out the snowman shapes and accessories before I called kids over.  I made a variety of scarves, hats, mittens and little black buttons.

There really is no right or wrong here.  Give your kids some glue and accessories and let them have at it.

Here are our final Frostys.  Big A made one, I made the other.  Little C was busy with something else, but I set some goodies aside for later in case he wants to make one.

Handy Reindeer

What you need:

  • brown or tan felt
  • google eyes
  • scissors
  • red and black craft pompoms
  • glue

Have your kids trace their hand on a piece of felt and help them cut it out.

Turn it finger side down, the fingers are your reindeer’s legs and face.

Glue a red or black pompom on the end of the thumb for his nose.  Glue a google eye above the nose.

Glue a pompom on the “butt” just above the pinky finger for his tail.

We used felt for the antlers, but you could use pipe cleaners to.  I also did a pipe cleaner collar type thing on mine as well.

Hope the rest of your long weekend is great!
